Script

Script types descend from formal chancery hands of the sixteenth century, later mechanised into the copperplate and Spencerian styles taught in schools. The bold script block in Unicode is a full alphabet with no gaps, which makes it the most consistent handwriting-flavoured option available. Digits stay plain, since the block does not define styled numerals.

Where people use it

  • Bios that need warmth rather than shout
  • Names on digital cards and invitations
  • Signature lines in newsletters
  • Boutique and handmade shop titles

Frequently asked questions

How is script different from cursive here?
Script is the bold weight of the same family; cursive is the lighter one. Compare them in the grid and pick by legibility.
Why don't numbers change?
The script block covers letters only, so digits pass through unchanged.
Is script text searchable?
Not as ordinary words. Search engines index these as separate characters, so keep searchable terms in plain text.
