Because these are ordinary characters, they survive the trip through message sync, backups and forwarding intact. Group subjects, your about text and contact names all accept them. One caveat: WhatsApp's native asterisk formatting will not apply on top of already-styled characters, so pick one approach per message.

- Why doesn't asterisk bold work on styled text?
- WhatsApp's formatter looks for plain letters between the markers. Styled characters are not recognised, so the markers stay visible.
- Will the recipient see the same style?
- Almost always. Very old phones without the right font may show boxes for exotic styles.
- Can I style a broadcast or business profile?
- Yes, the same characters work in business profiles, catalogues and broadcast messages.
